Is $15,000 worth it for this car?

Found this 2015 Honda Civic EX-L with 36,000 miles, one owner (a lady). Carfax looks good, no accidents, good maintenance record, and only a few scratches on the front and rear bumper. Leather interior, but no navigation. The CVT transmission has me a bit worried, but I heard Hondas are usually fine if you keep up with maintenance. It’s been well looked after, and the interior is in excellent shape with just a few dents and scratches on the outside. Drives great… should I go for it?

$15K? :rofl: No way.

That’s what I was thinking too, haha! $15k is just too much.

Yeah, the market for used cars is wild right now.

Not that wild… my dad just bought a 2015 Accord with 78k miles for $13k out the door.

@Kieran
But you think a Civic with half the miles for $15k is unreasonable?

Yes. In my area, KBB values it at around $10.5k. The 2015 Accord around here goes for $12.5k on KBB. It’s still just a Civic, man.

I totally agree, but KBB says it’s around $14-17k in good condition. COVID really messed up the market, but this is still crazy. Back when it was new, it sold for around $22k, and you could even negotiate it down a bit. How is it only down $5k in value after 9 years? I’d say $6-8k tops, but maybe I’m just out of touch.

Agreed… and I’m looking at this from a Canadian perspective. Is this price in Canadian dollars? :flushed:

That’s ridiculous. I paid about 20K CAD out the door for my brand new 2018 DX.

If you go for it, just be ready to replace the upper air intake hose. This can cause hesitation when you accelerate. It’s a common issue, but luckily, the part’s cheap—about $15.

Here’s a video link on how to fix it. It’s pretty easy to do at home and can help with issues that come from normal wear and tear on the engine.

@Sam
Wow, I didn’t know this could happen! I’ll check mine in the morning, thanks! Any other common problems with the 9th gen? I had to replace my starter at only 80k, did it myself but barely knew what I was doing.

@Sam
Hey, could this cause RPM to drop a lot when idle?

Yep, and it can make acceleration feel a bit jerky.

Any idea if the Accord from this generation has this same issue?

@Roderick
I was wondering too! My 2.0 T lags for about 1.5 seconds before getting power.

$15k?! No way. You could find a low-mileage 2015 Accord for that price. Tell the seller to keep dreaming.

That’s a lot of money for a 10-year-old car. I’d say it’s worth closer to $10k. Did you check the KBB value?

Even though I don’t think it’s worth $15k, KBB does say it could be worth $13.5k to $17.5k based on its condition. Personally, I think that’s high, but that’s what KBB has it at.
