I often carry heavy loads in my Honda Fit and was wondering if there are any mods or adjustments I can make to help it handle better. Any advice or suggestions?
I’m not sure how to help directly, but I wanted to say your post made me smile. I stepped away from social media years ago because of all the negativity, but I joined this forum after getting a 2018 Fit Sport manual to find like-minded car enthusiasts.
I also own a ‘95 Miata, so I’m part of that group too. During Thanksgiving, my younger relatives laughed at me for saying how positive this forum is, but I guess it’s just something about fun cars that draws good people. Wishing you luck with your micro SUV.

Thank you! It’s great to find positive communities like this.

Absolutely agree. I avoid most social media, but this forum feels like one of the rare good spaces online. Love the Fit family here!

100% agree
Try putting in stiffer rear springs.

This works. Insight springs are stiffer and fit perfectly, but you’ll gain some ride height.

Be careful—it might ride a bit rough since the car is so light, especially with the increased height.
@Corey
Yeah, stiff springs can cause the car to bounce more if it’s not heavily loaded, which means less grip.

Exactly. Even though Insight springs aren’t super heavy-duty, it could still feel harsh when empty.

True, but keep in mind suspension is always a trade-off. At 600 lbs, you’re just carrying extra passengers, which the car is designed to handle without major changes.
Does anyone else have any other ideas for this?
The Fit can handle 850 lbs of payload, so you should be fine.

Don’t forget that includes the driver and fuel. If the driver is 200 lbs and the tank is full, that’s about 585 lbs left for cargo.
You could either replace the struts and suspension parts more often or go for heavier-duty springs and struts. Not sure which brands are tougher than stock though.
Check your rear bump stops to see if they’re being used. If so, stiffer springs will help, but avoid lowering springs—they’ll make it worse.
Also, consider a rear sway bar to help with stability, especially on corners with heavy loads. Tires with higher weight ratings and adjusting the PSI for load conditions can make a big difference too.

So true, they’re like the Honda Fit of hand carts .
Your dog looks pretty offended to be called a heavy load
