Hey everyone, I picked up an 08 Fit back in August and it’s been great. It was super clean with only 150k miles. So far, I’ve only changed the oil and put on new tyres. One thing I’ve noticed is that it idles low. I assumed this was normal for good fuel efficiency, but now that it’s colder (30-40°F), I need to warm it up for about 5 minutes. If I don’t, it stalls when I put it in drive. Sometimes it even sputters out while warming up. Is this normal? What should I check?
This sounds like a classic case of needing a valve adjustment. It’s common for it to stall when the engine is cold, especially in winter.

Exactly right. Adjust the valves, replace the spark plugs, and consider swapping out the coil packs if they’re old or cracked.
@Kieran
Just make sure you get the Hitachi IGC0053 coil packs for GD3 models. A lot of people have had bad luck with other brands.

Aren’t Denso coil packs the original ones for this car?
@Hartley
I’m not completely sure, but from what I’ve seen on forums, a valve adjustment, new plugs, and Hitachi coils almost always improve performance.

I heard there were issues with the original coil packs. I’m trying some non-original ones now.
@Dallas
Most aftermarket options are just copies of the original design. Hitachi seems to be the only brand that fixed the design flaw causing undetected misfires.

Got a link to the Hitachi model? I’d like to replace the rest of mine.

Thanks for the tip .
Check spark plugs, coil packs, and get a valve adjustment done—in that order. And only go for the original Hitachi coils. Nice-looking Fit, by the way.

Appreciate the advice, mate.
I have an 08 Fit with 180k miles, and I’ve been dealing with the same issue. Just did a valve adjustment today. I’ll update in a few days to let you know if it worked.

Any update yet?
@Evren
Give them a bit more time. It’s only been a day .
I had a similar issue when I got mine. Cleaning the throttle body and changing the spark plugs fixed it for me.

I’ll try that, thanks .
Clean the air temp sensor in the intake with mass air flow cleaner, and you might need a valve adjustment. I have the same car, but yours looks way cleaner than mine!
