Why hasn't Honda introduced an AWD option for the Civic or Accord?

Hey guys,

I’ve been wondering, why hasn’t Honda come out with an AWD option for the Civic or Accord? I’m not just looking for speculation here; I want some real, documented reasons. I get the whole marketing concept, but I find it hard to believe there’s no demand for it, especially considering they sell their cars in countries with heavy snowfall like the US, Canada, Japan, China, and Germany, among others.

In my view, if there’s a market for AWD sedans from BMW, Mercedes, and Audi, then surely there’s a market for Honda sedans with AWD too. What do you guys think?

It’s a strategic move; Honda prefers to offer AWD in their Acura lineup rather than in their Honda models. It’s as straightforward as that.

Why they don’t offer an AWD option in their sedans is beyond me. The Germans provide us the Altima AWD, Camry (AWD), Avalon, and Ford Fusion. Acura and Lexus have it. It’s just beyond me. As a Nissan technician, I would absolutely choose a 2.0 Accord Sport AWD to an Altima. We still sell a ton of Q50s in AWD from Infiniti, and we offer the Altima in AWD. Thus, I’m just baffled.

Regretfully, Honda doesn’t seem to give a damn whether there is a market for anything. Wherever they’re selling things, they already know what the public wants. This is somewhat the reason why certain automobiles and motorcycles that are exclusive to a given area are never offered elsewhere.
