Why can't I turn off the headlights?

Try turning on the ebrake before starting the car if you’re going to be parked for a while.

They are daytime running lights, they stay on by law.

DRL can’t be turned off when the engine is on. It’s a requirement. The headlight knob only controls the driving lights.

Set the switch to OFF and engage the handbrake. Modern DRL lights stay on even when set to OFF. You need to have the ebrake on for them to go off.

What are DRLs?

Just put your handbrake on .

As others mentioned, pulling up the handbrake should disable the daytime running lights.

Fog lights are dimmer when driving. If you’re parked and trying to be stealthy, just engage the ebrake and turn it off.

This has been the case since the 2006 Civic.

You can’t turn off DRLs while in drive mode. In other modes, push the light lever all the way down to turn them off.

DRLs automatically turn on when you disengage the ebrake. There’s no way around that.

Try parking your car in reverse if needed.

Check for a DRL fuse under the dashboard and pull it. That should disable the DRLs but leave the headlights working normally. It worked for my 8th gen, not sure about yours.

Why would you want to disable the DRLs though?

Could it be that your high beams are on? Maybe?

Haha, every Civic I see has their high beams on.

As a Civic driver, people always flash their lights at me, thinking my high beams are on when they’re not. My regular lights are just really bright.

@Cai
They’re not high beams, your headlights probably need an alignment. People don’t know how to use the headlight aiming tool.

They also don’t know how to fix the headlight fluid pumps. Crazy world we live in. But hey, couldn’t be me.

@Felix
I have no idea what you’re talking about to be honest.
