Wasn’t he already over 400k? Looks like he's way past it now

I’ve mentioned this guy a few times on here recently. He bought his 1st gen Sport when it had 140,000 miles about 2 years ago. Last time I saw him and asked about his car, he had 391,000 miles on it.

It’s been a bit since I last spoke to him, but we caught up today, and he let me snap a pic of the odometer.

He does about 2,500 miles a week. Trip A shows his mileage for Monday, Tuesday, and today.

When I last spoke with him at 391,000 miles, he had only done oil changes, tires, brakes, and one tranny drain and fill. He hasn’t needed to do anything else except oil changes in the last 24,000 miles.

His cruise control stopped working last year, and he gets some water leaks around the windshield and in the trunk, but that’s about it for problems so far.

At this rate, he could hit a million miles in the next 4 to 5 years if it keeps going like this.

Hoping my car makes it that far too

It’s gotta be that VTEC engine

Should we start a crowdfund to get him a timing chain? I really want to see this car last forever.

Have timing chains been a problem with these? I haven’t heard anything about that yet. Maybe I missed it.

@Vic
Nah, just repeating the general advice I’ve heard with high-mileage cars. Timing chains wear out over time, so replacing it early is a good idea to avoid bigger issues later.

Yeah, I guess it couldn’t hurt. With good oil and frequent changes (he probably changes his every 3 weeks or so), I think he’s good for a while. I’m hoping the chain on my car lasts until I hit 400k+.

This is the highest mileage GD3 I’ve ever seen, online or in person. Anyone want to trade for my 293k one?

I saw a post on Fit Freaks forum about someone with 600k miles on their GD3, though.

Just hit 240,000 miles on my 2015 .

How’s the paint holding up? It must be peeling by now…

Most of the paint is still good except for a few dings from other stuff.

How’s the reliability been? My 2015 with 70k miles has had some issues. The starter gave out at 50k and the push button at 35k.

I’ve had very few issues. The original fuel injectors failed at 82k, and I got them replaced under warranty. The starter went around 120k, and I had it fixed with a new push button at the same time. The parking brake cables rusted around 7 years, and I replaced the second set of fuel injectors at 195k miles. Had to replace the clutch, catalytic converter, and alternator recently too. Still, overall, I’m happy with it. I spent about $6k on repairs last year, but it should last a few more years.

That’s awesome

I’m about to hit 200k on my 2013, so excited but also a bit worried about how long it’ll last since I drive it pretty hard.

How long do the first gen automatics last? I know the engines and manuals are tough, but how about the automatics?

This one’s at over 400k miles, so it looks like the automatic can last too.

@Reece
I didn’t realise it was an automatic. Missed that part in the post.

I didn’t mention it earlier, and since I added a picture, I can’t update it now. Most cars here are automatics, so I didn’t think it needed pointing out. But if it’s a manual, I’d definitely mention it.
