First, I want to thank the big guy upstairs for helping me keep this car on the road. I picked this up back in 2019 for $600. It didn’t run, so I replaced the timing chain and got it going. Now it’s my Sunday family car because it’s too nice for daily driving.
What kind of maintenance schedule do you follow for it?

Honestly, I don’t really follow one. I change the oil every 5,000 miles and rotate the tires with every oil change. Other than that, I just fix stuff when it breaks.
@Noel
How do you know when something’s about to go bad? And what about that ticking sound at idle—could it be the bearings?

I don’t really know until it actually breaks. As for the ticking, it could be a lot of things. Bearings maybe, but you’d need to check it out.
@Noel
That’s one way to do it, I guess… but isn’t that kind of stressful?
@Noel
What’s broken on the car so far?

When I bought it, the timing chain and guides were shot, so I fixed those first. After that, I’ve replaced the alternator, power steering pump, and a wheel bearing. There was also a leak from the roof seam that I sealed up. Other than that, just routine stuff like brakes, tires, and spark plugs. Thinking I should probably do the transmission fluid soon.
@Noel
That’s impressive! I had to replace my alternator at 200k miles, but my 2007 Acura TL-S is burning oil now at 253k. It’s been through a lot—wish I’d taken better care of it back in the day.
I love seeing high-mileage cars still going strong. What year is yours?

It’s a 2008 Honda Accord.
Hahaha, I was about to say ‘Hello, fellow 08 Accord owner’… mine’s green. What color is yours?

Mine’s black, LX-P trim. The only thing I can’t figure out is how to replace the radio. Everything I’ve looked at just doesn’t look right.
@Noel
Yo, I have CarPlay in mine! My cousin installed it, and it looks amazing. Want me to send you a pic?

Yeah, that’d be awesome! Mine’s a 2.4, not the V6, but I’d love to copy your setup.
@Noel
Give me a sec, I’ll snap a photo when I have time. It fits perfectly where the buttons were, and it works great, though my old phone overheated a lot.

Does it look factory? My dash has that little screen on top, and I don’t know how to make it look clean.
@Noel
Yeah, it looks super clean! My cousin did a great job fitting it in.
Why’d you replace the timing chain?

The car didn’t run when I bought it, which is why it was only $600.
