My car’s alarm went off in a packed parking lot around six months ago. I fumbled to use the key fob to turn it off because I am such a worrier, and it turned on by itself. I switched it off out of confusion and attempted, but failed, to reproduce it. I decided to ignore it as a fluke and carried on. It occurs once again in the present day. This time, after turning it off, I just start randomly pushing buttons, and it turns on, proving to me that I am not crazy! I now firmly believe that my Honda Accord lx has remote start built in; they just choose not to disclose this fact to you in order to charge you more for the higher-end model that they truly promote as having this function, and they do not provide you with a key fob that has a separate remote start button. Does anyone have any information regarding this?
Here’s a dealership technician. In my experience, an aftermarket device that has compromised the wire harness is 99 times out of 100 times the cause of a “Honda” car alarm that goes off at random, just like you mentioned. Having said that, a service bulletin about a remote engine start control unit failure on 2015 accords is available. Ask your dealership about bulletin 15-039 when you visit.
Unlikely your Honda Accord LX has hidden remote start. Most LX trims don’t have it. The random alarm and button presses might be a coincidence. It’s best to consult your owner’s manual or visit a Honda dealership to confirm if LX has remote start and the proper fob buttons.
I haven’t heard of this either, but I’m following because I also have a 15 Lx.
For the new Ridgeline, start by pressing the lock button twice, then hold down the round arrow button for five seconds. Give that a try as well.
