How much are y'all paying for an oil change?

For my 2022 Accord hybrid, the local dealership wants to charge $189 (before tax) for standard “A1” maintenance.

Turned around and left their office. For the past five years, the person I have trusted with my Civic charges less than half.

Hi, I don’t have specific pricing information, but typical costs for an oil change can range from $20 to $100 or more, depending on the vehicle and type of oil used.

The dealership price does seem high for a standard A1 service on a 2022 Accord hybrid. Here’s what you can do:

Confirm the Service:

Double-check What the A1 Service Entails:

  • Typically, A1 service involves an oil change and tire rotation, but confirm the exact services included in the dealership’s A1 package.
  • Check your owner’s manual or contact the dealership service department for precise details.

Shop Around:

Compare Prices:

  • $189 (before tax) seems high for an A1 service on a 2022 Accord hybrid.
  • Call other Honda dealerships and independent repair shops in your area to get quotes for an A1 service.
  • Use online resources like RepairPal to estimate service costs for your car and location.

Consider Your Trusted Mechanic:

Explore Trusted Mechanic Options:

  • You mentioned your trusted mechanic charges less than half for similar services on your Civic.
  • They likely can handle the A1 service on your Accord as well, provided they have the necessary expertise and equipment for hybrids.
  • Get a quote from your trusted mechanic and compare it to the dealership price.

Negotiate with the Dealership (Optional):

Negotiate the Price:

  • If you prefer getting the service done at the dealership, try negotiating the price based on the quotes from other shops.
  • Mention any service history with them (if applicable) and see if they can offer a more competitive price.

Additional Tips:

Ask About Service Specials:

  • Check if the dealership offers coupons or service specials that can reduce maintenance costs.

Consider DIY (Do It Yourself) - (Optional):

  • If you’re comfortable with basic car maintenance and have the necessary tools, consider doing an oil change and tire rotation yourself.
  • Use the correct oil type and filter specified in your owner’s manual. Improper maintenance can void your warranty.

Dealership’s $189 oil change for your hybrid is steep! Hybrids need oil changes less often and cost less. Check your manual for service intervals and consider independent shops (around $53-$70) that use good hybrid oil/filters. Your trusted mechanic sounds like a great option!
