How does electronic headlight adjustment actually work?

Wait… is headlight adjustment only electronic in certain places?

It’s electronic, yeah.

In Europe, the rules say cars need electronic height adjustment so that when you tow or carry heavy loads, the beam doesn’t end up pointing too high.

Oh I see… my car has that feature but it doesn’t work. I’m replacing the headlights with Depo black housing ones because the originals are ruined. Is it possible to modify the Depo ones to include those adjusters?

@Mason
Yes, you can. I’m using Depo housings with retrofit projectors.

If you can, try swapping the back part of the original headlight onto the new ones. It should give you a better fit and finish.

I can’t really do that. I’m ordering new headlights because the last owner had a small accident. The bumper was patched up fine, but the headlight mounts got wrecked, so now the headlights barely stay in place.

I’ve heard the Depo ones don’t fit as well as the originals. I wanted OEMs, but they’re impossible to find, and when you do, the prices are ridiculous.

@Auden
Oh, I get it now… you meant the adjusters fit better with the OEMs. I’ve heard people say you can’t beat OEM quality and all that. Are those headlight protectors in the picture? I’m thinking of adding a UV protective film, kind of like what comes on new screens.

@Mason
For the adjusters, you’ll probably have to modify the new lights a bit.

And yes, those are factory headlight protectors.

That makes sense now. Do you think UV films work better than these protectors?
