Honda and the sharing of your driving data with Insurance companies

About a month ago, the New York Times reported that car companies collect driving performance data and share it with third-party risk companies, which then sell it to insurance companies. A man was dropped by his insurer due to data from his car manufacturer, GM.

I recently bought a 2023 Honda Accord Touring and wanted to know if my data is being shared. Honda informed me that data is only shared if you sign up for the HondaLink app and use the “Driver Feedback” feature. It’s clearly stated during sign-up, and you can opt out of the “Driver Feedback” feature.

Here is a link to an FAQ for HondaLink.

Hopefully this helps someone.

Hehe…I had read the app’s new terms of service and wanted to opt out. Three, four, are you sure emails were sent to me. I received a hard copy of my opt-out through Fed-Ex about a month and a half later, requiring my signature. If Honda disregards the opt-out request, I’ll let you know.
