Honda Accord 1980

I’m thinking about buying a 1980 Honda Accord that has just 30,000 original miles and is in nearly perfect condition inside and out. The owner has been keeping up with regular maintenance. Would you recommend using this car as a daily driver?

For weekend use, a CVCC-era Accord could be fun. But if you plan to drive it daily, be ready to handle carburetors and vacuum lines, or find a shop that can. Also, be careful not to get into an accident with anything bigger than a golf cart.

A Honda is great for everyday driving, but paying $10k for a 1980 model isn’t ideal. It’s a good car and low mileage is a plus, but I’d offer around $6k at most. If the seller won’t accept that, keep looking.

Edit: Since you like the body style, go with your instincts—the low mileage is a good sign!

Absolutely! It’s a dependable car that will last a long time. Just be careful around other drivers.

Didn’t see the price. 10K ? isn’t that a bit expensive even for a mint good old honda ? Anyway listen to your heart .

For that price, you might find a 2015 model on Facebook Marketplace. You could also look for 2013 or 2014 models.

Think before you type, man. Of course, I could put a down payment on a 2022 model or buy a modern car outright. I just really like the look of this car.

Unless you work from home, it’s better to keep it as a weekend or show car.

It’s not about the car’s reliability, but how much more dangerous other vehicles are now. Cars have become much heavier over the last 42 years, so there’s a good chance an accident might not be your fault or avoidable.

No responsible adult would say it’s a good idea. Cars from the 80s are now 40 years old, and cars from the 90s are 30 years old. These cars aren’t reliable or safe for everyday use anymore, and parts will likely break. But if you want a second car to drive on weekends for fun, that’s okay.
