Changing out a starter is just... really frustrating

Yep. I had mine redone recently and my coolant pipes broke when they took it out. I get my car oil sprayed every year, but it doesn’t reach deep enough in the engine. That was an extra cost.

Found an easy way to do mine in my 09… while the engine is out of the car.

Hahah.

Did it a couple months ago on my ’07 and totally agree. Took me a few hours to get it done and I have a lift. Getting to the top bolt was the issue. I bought some U-shaped wrenches from Amazon that really helped. 180k miles and didn’t want to take off the intake. I know there are worse ones, but it still sucks!

I’ve been quoted around $900 for my 2011.

Yep, mine was about $900 installed.

I have the skills to work on a car. 2 bolts and 2 electrical connections isn’t that tough. It’s everything else that has to be removed to get to those bolts and connections.

@Cory
Cool story, bro. Proud of you. Most people won’t even touch a car :ok_hand:

I see the downvote, but I’m reading sarcasm here. I’m glad people work on their own stuff too. It takes a lot for me to pay for labor, especially when it costs so much compared to what I make per hour.

Some things are just a pain even with the right skills. This starter is a good example.

It’s the access that’s the problem. Had to remove the oil sender (I think) and it was hard to even get to the bolts. Couldn’t find a straight shot, so I used a U-wrench for the top bolt. Did some from the top and then finished from the bottom.

What’s that? A key car starter?

I’m curious too. Can someone explain?
