I enjoy getting about 20 mpg while traveling exclusively on freeways, but I dislike it when I have to drive on country highways with sporadic stop signs! It is advised that I keep the RPMs at or below 2000 and avoid abrupt accelerations, however, this means that it will take me a while to reach 55 mph. Is there anything else I can do?
Hello folks,
When traveling down the highway, utilize the overdrive gear to lower engine RPM.
Avoid aerodynamic drag by limiting external equipment such as roof racks or load carriers while not in use.
Consider Eco-Driving Courses. Professional driving schools can teach you advanced ways for increasing fuel efficiency.
To improve mileage on an Odyssey, check fuel trims with a scan tool. If your van is adding 10-20% more fuel, it may not trigger a code but still lower gas mileage. Replacing all four O2 sensors with NTK ones from RockAuto can help, matching OEM quality at a lower cost.
