I recently found a 2003 Honda Accord EX with only 30,000 miles. I test drove it today, and the car looks brand new. The Carfax is great, showing one owner until 2023, who took it in for service every three months and even changed the timing belt at 20,000 miles.
I’m unsure about buying it since 2003 is the first model year, and I’ve heard there might be transmission problems. What do you all think?
I feel the opposite. Besides oil changes every 5,000 miles, I haven’t had to spend much on my 2006 EX. There haven’t been any major repairs in 18 years (knock on wood).
I don’t trust older cars with low mileage. I’d rather buy a used car with higher mileage instead, but that’s just me. And $11,000? Is anyone really thinking about paying that?
I had a 2007 car with a 4-cylinder engine. It was a great car, but it started using a lot of oil. I also didn’t like that it was hard to change the radio unless you moved it somewhere else.
My 2004 Accord V6, which had nearly 200,000 miles, was totaled in December. Insurance said it was worth almost $5,000. I miss it every day and would buy it again in a second.
I had to replace the transmission around 125,000 miles because the thermostat broke. Other than that, it was a great car.
Just to add, my Accord came from a relative in New York, so it had a lot of rust underneath, but it still held up well.
Try to negotiate a lower price, but if you buy this car and take care of it, it will last a long time. It’s also not too hard to fix. I know someone who has a 2004 V6 Accord with 405,000 miles and it’s still running well.
Just be careful with the transmission on those cars. They’re not very good and often fail. If you buy it, make sure to change the fluid every 20,000 to 30,000 miles.
Also, why does the leather in the back look more worn than in the front?
Also forgot to add… the reason I sold it was it was going to need a third transmission… I just acquired an ‘05 accord v6 with 124k miles… hoping they sorted the transmissions out by 2005 but I have my doubts.
I have a 2003 car with 160,000 miles. It’s a decent car for being 20 years old, but it’s not my favorite. Mine has a lot of rust because it’s been in the Northeast its whole life.
