2002 Honda Accord Coupe

I’m thinking about getting a 2002 Honda Accord coupe. Is there anything I should know about it? And if you’ve had one, how was your experience with it?

Get the 4-cylinder model. The V6 engines can damage the transmission. You can tell which is which by looking at the wheels: the 4-cylinder has 4-lug wheels, and the V6 has 5-lug wheels.

I had a 4-cylinder, 5-speed manual car for almost 20 years. It was totaled when someone stole the catalytic converter. Now I have a 2019 TLX AWD ASpec, but I still miss that old car. It was great. You mentioned a V6 model that only comes with an automatic transmission. I would choose the manual, but the automatic in the V6 is supposed to be better than the one in the 4-cylinder if you go that route.

Thanks for the info.

Avoid the V6. The transmission has problems.

I had one last year and loved it, especially since I paid very little for it (around $2,000 for one with 77,000 miles). Unfortunately, it was totaled.

But yes, be careful with the V6. Look for proof of regular transmission fluid changes and, if possible, an aftermarket transmission cooler.

My cousin had a V6 and loved it. He kept it until 2021, when his daughter crashed it.

Wow, it’s good to hear it held up well. I hope his daughter is okay.
