10th gen or 11th gen… which one’s better

I think the 11th gen looks like a great commuter car. It has some style but blends in more, making it less noticeable on the road. It’s smooth and modern, which suits most people. I’m not a fan of the thin headlights or the oversized grille, but they’re still better than the fake vents on the 10th gen.

The 10th gen, though, stands out. The front and tail lights are so distinctive—it’s instantly recognisable. Personally, I think it’s a bit too aggressive for the average driver, but if they had toned it down for the base models while keeping the sporty trims like the SI or Type R unique, it would’ve been a better balance. The 11th gen’s Type R definitely looks less like a track monster compared to the 10th gen.

For me, the 11th gen suits everyday drivers, while the 10th gen is more for enthusiasts.

The 10th gen is my favourite! The first time I saw one in 2017, I was blown away. I couldn’t believe it was a Civic. Since then, I’ve owned two of them.

10th gen front with the 11th gen back would be perfect.

I don’t like the thin, bucktooth headlights on the 11th gen—it just looks odd. But the crab claw tail lights on the 10th gen are worse compared to the cleaner lines on the 11th gen.

@Vic
I think the crab claw lights make the 10th gen stand out. I’d still pick the 10th gen front and back but with the 11th gen’s more subtle vents.

Are you sure about that? The vents on my Accord (11th gen) are actually functional.

For looks, the 10th gen wins hands down.

Seeing the 11th gen in person, it feels more classy, but it’s such a boring design. It’s nice, but a bit too plain. Even a base model 10th gen looks sporty and grabs more attention compared to an 11th gen Type R.

@Tyler
Completely agree. The 11th gen might have a modern style, but it’s toned down way too much. The 10th gen, on the other hand, seems like it was made to launch the Type R in the US. They couldn’t make the first Type R here look boring.

As someone from Europe, I’d say the 10th gen is better because the 11th gen only came as a hybrid here, and the Type R costs a fortune.

That said, if interior design matters to you, the 11th gen feels much nicer and more modern. The 10th gen’s interior felt outdated even a few years into its life cycle.

@Taylor
I disagree. I think the 10th gen interior looks way better than the 11th gen.

10th gen all the way.

10th gen.

I’ve owned both. I prefer the 11th gen for almost everything except the lack of heated seats. Honestly, I’ve never liked the look of the 10th gen, but I guess it’s grown on me because it’s been around for a while now. It really just comes down to personal taste.

@Jules
My 2025 Civic has heated seats, but it’s the sport hybrid version.

The 10th gen, no question. Nothing else compares.

The 10th gen is my least favourite Civic.

Mix the 10th gen front with the rest of the 11th gen, and that would be ideal.

Lease an 11th gen for a couple of years and move on. Civics aren’t reliable anymore, and Honda’s reputation isn’t what it used to be.
