Why is my steering so hard to turn and this light shows up?

Hi everyone, I need help. When I’m driving and stop at a red light, this light on my dashboard turns on, and the steering gets super hard to move. My car is a 2014 Honda Jazz. I managed to pull over, turn the engine off, and start it again, and then it was fine. Any idea why this is happening?

That light is for your electric power steering. If it’s on while the engine is running, there’s an issue. You’ll need a scanner to read the error code and figure out what’s wrong. Check your battery connections too—dirty or loose cables can cause problems. In the US, some 2014 Honda and Acura models got warranty extensions for power steering issues. You should ask your dealer if yours is covered.

Check your car’s manual. It’ll have all the info you need about the warning lights.

Why bother commenting this? Maybe they don’t have the manual or know where to find it.

Most manuals are available online for free. It’s usually the fastest way to get a reliable answer.

Totally agree. My Honda is over 30 years old, and I still have the manual!

@Yan
Even my friend’s 1997 Ford Thunderbird manual is online. And trust me, no one bought that car.

You could’ve just posted a helpful answer instead of being rude.

His advice is solid. Manuals are way more accurate than random comments on a forum.

They weren’t rude. Manuals really do have the most reliable info. It’s better than guessing here.

Considering someone here suggested checking steering fluid on a car with electric power steering, yeah… manuals are better.

I’ve contributed more to the post than you have.

How is suggesting the manual being rude? Manuals explain these warnings better than we can. Plus, they tell you what to check for your specific car.

If you can post here, you can find the manual.

Every driver should know what these lights mean. It’s basic safety.

Sounds like a power steering issue. Maybe the fluid is low?

There shouldn’t be any fluid. The Jazz has electric power steering.

Oh right, the fluid is probably near the muffler bearings then.
