White stuff under the hood of a 10th gen Civic Si… should I worry?

I’m checking out a 10th gen Civic Si to buy, but there’s some white stuff under the hood. Not sure what it is. Could this be a problem? Appreciate any advice.

It’s probably just road dust that’s built up over time. It gets into the fabric under the hood from pressure and the fan blowing it around.

Haha, maybe it’s transforming into a V8! Just kidding. That white stuff doesn’t affect the car’s performance. Focus more on how the car runs—listen for weird noises or issues, not what’s on the insulation.

And yeah, that’s heat insulation to keep you from burning yourself when you open the hood.

@Bao
It might help keep the hood a little cooler, but it’s really there to dampen engine noise for a quieter ride.

Hard to tell if it’s mold or just the material they use in the hood insulators. Either way, I wouldn’t let it stop you from considering the car.

What year is the car?

The hood looks fine. I’d focus on checking the coolant and oil levels. Make sure the A/C is working, too. There are some warranty issues with the A/C, and if it’s not covered, fixing it could get expensive.
