I’m new to the Honda scene, and I’ve got a question: What’s the deal with red emblems versus black emblems? I know the red background with the silver H Honda emblem is for the Type-R line, but what about the black background with the red H emblem?
I’m currently working on modifying my FD2, and I’m keen to change the standard logo. But I don’t want to jump the gun and slap a Type-R logo on a car that’s not a Type-R. I’m really curious about what the black background/red H emblem represents.
If anyone could shed some light on this, I’d really appreciate it.
As far as I know, the black emblem with a red H is typically just something aftermarket. Even if certain ads might suggest otherwise.
Ultimately, you can customize your car however you want, but opinions on things like this can be divided. Some see it as simply personalizing your ride, while others view it as trying to portray something you’re not, kind of like putting a cucumber down your pants to pretend you have something you don’t.
Red emblems are typically associated with special editions or performance-focused cars, like Honda’s Type-R series. Black emblems are often used aftermarket, but can be customized by some owners. Porsche’s iconic gold, black, and red crest, launched in 1952, is a symbol of the brand’s history.
This emblem is emblematic of Honda’s high-performance Type-R models, symbolizing vehicles engineered for spirited driving and track performance, boasting enhanced power and handling capabilities.
Black Badge with a Red “H” (Standard Honda):
The standard emblem found on most Honda vehicles, including models like the FD2 (often Civic Si), represents the quintessential Honda brand identity without specific performance connotations.
Other Badge Variations (Less Common):
Gold Badge with a Black “H”: Typically found on Acura vehicles, Honda’s luxury division.
Blue Badge with a White “H”: Occasionally used on Honda hybrid or electric models, though less frequently than other variations.
Emblem Replacement:
While there’s no strict rule against it, swapping a Type-R emblem onto a non-Type-R vehicle like the FD2 is generally discouraged within the Honda community. Doing so may be perceived as disingenuous or misleading to fellow enthusiasts who recognize the distinction.
