Was this $400 well spent… 79 Accord?

Just picked up a '79 Accord for 400 bucks. It’s in decent shape, and I’m hoping to restore it fully. Feels like a solid find.

You don’t see many first-gen Preludes these days. That’s a cool find.

I want to restore it instead of modifying since it’s mostly intact. Already got an engine gasket set, but I haven’t checked everything yet. At 200k miles, I just hope the timing belt didn’t go.

The carb is the only thing that’s been messed with, and when I got it from the auction, it still had a rag on top like the last guy just gave up. Seems like it’s just an air/fuel issue.

@Aman
If the original carb is still on there, swap it for a Weber 32/36 or 38/38. It’ll save you a lot of hassle and probably make it drive better. My guess is a carb rebuild and an oil change will get it running. I’ve had both on my second-gen Civics, and they made a big difference.

Got any pics?

Oops, meant to say 79 Prelude. Guess I’m too used to typing Accord.

Does it actually run?

Not yet, but the engine turns over and fires up with starter fluid. Pretty sure it’s just an air/fuel problem. Also, the clutch master cylinder is done for—the fluid reservoir literally crumbled in my hands.

Yeah, I was about to say… no way that’s an Accord. The first 2-door coupe version came out in ‘88. I had one for 11 years and 231k miles before the engine block cracked. Still miss that car.

That’s an awesome find. It’s gonna look so good once you’re done with it.

That was my first car! Would love to have one again, but most have rusted away by now.

Love seeing these old Hondas .

Are you sure it’s an Accord? Looks more like a Prelude.

I had one back in the day. Super fun to drive, but it went through spark plugs like crazy. Every 4k-5k miles, it needed new NGKs, or it would start smoking and running rough. Had over 130k miles before I finally sold it.

How did you find it? My first car was one of these. It was red with an electric sunroof. Only had 30k miles when a Jeep took it out while I was pulling into school.

Take care of it and bring it back to life!

Damn, this makes my $500 RD1 look overpriced.

My best friend in high school had one. So many good memories in that car.

For $400, that’s a steal.

So jealous of this find.
