The other day, I opened the trunk on my 1999 Honda Accord and when I tried to close it, it wouldn’t lock. I started messing with the lever, and now it’s completely stuck. I can’t push it down any further. I’ve tried unlocking and locking it, but nothing’s working. Does anyone have advice?
Try taking off the trim piece next to the lever and checking for anything blocking it. If it’s just jammed, there’s also a release mechanism inside the trunk that can help unstick it.

Can you explain a bit more about the release mechanism? I’m not very familiar with it.
@Marlowe
There are lots of videos about this on YouTube. They should help you out.
@Marlowe
This video might not be the exact issue you’re facing, but it shows how the emergency release mechanism works inside the trunk: https://youtu.be/cXlDFdk-xzw
@Marlowe
Just open the trunk and look for it. Or do you want me to come and fix it for you too?

No need to be rude. Not everyone knows exactly what you’re talking about.

In an age where Google, YouTube, and forums like this exist, there’s no excuse for being lazy. Do you expect me to hold your hand through everything? Just follow the instructions I already gave, or figure it out yourself.
@Kai
Relax, man. Maybe you need a break or something.
@Kai
Not everyone has experience with older cars, and sometimes finding info can be tricky. It’s fair to ask for more details when someone like you seems knowledgeable. Maybe try being more helpful instead of acting defensive.
This just unlocked a new fear for me.

Well, it’s a 25-year-old car. Stuff like this happens.

True, mine’s about that old too.
The latch on the trunk lid might not be resetting properly. Spray some lubricant on it and move it back and forth. Also, add some lubricant where the cable connects to the sheath and work the lever up and down.
@Rin
If that doesn’t work, the cable might be seized up and need replacing.
You could try pulling the cable back from inside the trunk.
A few things could be causing this. The wire might be broken and need replacing. The plastic at the end of the wire could be damaged—it’s what connects to the bracket and helps open the trunk. Rust could have expanded the wire, making it unusable. Or, the latch in the trunk might be jammed or broken and need grease or a full replacement.
These are always in a bad spot—dirt from the road, crumbs, even French fries can mess them up. The cable could be gummed up or oxidized. Spray some silicone lubricant on it and wipe it clean if possible. Both of my son’s Accords had similar issues.
