Taking my Accord in for a checkup and to get a recall fixed. She’s at 120,000 miles, so I’m having the engine and transmission looked at too. Anyone else done this lately? What should I expect?
Nice. I’ve got 190k on my 2016 Accord. Just had to replace the camera behind the rearview mirror because it went bad. Cost me about $1,200. Other than that, it’s running like new. Make sure to keep up with all the maintenance. My goal is to hit 300k at least.
@Mal
Do you think it got messed up from heat?
Honestly, I’m not sure. It just went out and messed with all my sensing systems. Kept getting alerts, and features like ACC and LKAS wouldn’t work.
@Mal
Good to know. I’m at 118k on mine… something to keep in mind.
@Mal
What kind of maintenance do you do to keep it running that well?

Just the basics. Don’t ignore weird noises or anything out of the ordinary. Keep up with spark plugs and stuff like that.
@Mal
$1200 for a dashboard camera? Seems a bit much. Do you really need it?

Yeah, it was throwing off all my sensors. Tried ignoring it for a while, but the warning lights were nonstop, and none of the assist features would work.
Thanks for sharing, good info.
To avoid engine problems, I never let my fuel get below a quarter tank. The fuel keeps the pump cool, and running low can cause it to overheat and fail. I’ve seen it happen to a lot of cars. My 96 Cavalier still has most of its original parts, including the fuel pump. The first owner took good care of it, and I just kept up with it. I also trust my mechanic’s advice more than the manufacturer’s recommendations.
@Merrick
I do that too. People say it doesn’t matter, but I’d rather not risk it.

Yeah, exactly. The fuel cools the pump, so when it gets too low, air gets in and the pump can overheat. I’ve replaced a ton of pumps because people kept running their cars on empty. I go by how the oil looks and smells rather than what the manufacturer says since driving styles vary a lot.
@Merrick
Good tip, thanks for that.
Not every 1.5 has issues, mine’s been solid.
Have you had any problems before this inspection?

Nope, just the recalled fuel pump. Heading to North Carolina next Friday, so I just want to make sure everything’s good for the trip. She’s been a great car so far, just being cautious.
@Broderick
That’s awesome. Honda Accord really holds up well. Glad to be part of the Honda family.

Welcome to the family.
@Broderick
How do you get the 1.5T to last that long? What’s your maintenance routine?
