Switched from 2006 to 2017 Honda Pilot - Is It Normal for First 2 Gears to Feel Sluggish?

Hello, I recently switched from a 2006 Honda Pilot to a 2017 Honda Pilot and have noticed something that feels off. In my 2006 Pilot, acceleration off the line was super peppy; you barely had to press the pedal, and it would take off quickly, almost to the point of wheel spin if you weren’t careful.

With the 2017 Pilot, I’m noticing that when I press the accelerator pedal about 20% down, it barely accelerates. It feels sluggish, especially in the first two gears. I’m wondering if this is normal or if it could be an issue with the newer VCM (Variable Cylinder Management) system?

It appears to be associated with the VCM system, which can occasionally impact throttle response and overall driving feel.

Based on my own encounters with my Honda Passport…Have you got an Econ button on? Try shutting it off. In essence, econ mode bypasses first gear and modifies the throttle response in an odd way.
