Replaced key fob battery for Civic, and it’s not working

Though I have not been able to figure it out, I have noticed a few posts about this on threads for Honda and Civic. I am hoping someone nice can assist!

My key fob’s red top light comes on when I click it after I changed the battery, but it does not unlock or lock the car. A major disappointment. It was not working because, according to a Reddit post, the user had inadvertently twisted the plastic components around the battery. However, I examined that (see photo) and everything appears to be in order. I also believe I placed the battery in correctly because the little red light on the fob turns on when I click buttons.

It is a 2016 Honda Civic EX. I had previously had to change the battery, but there was never a problem. Particularly annoying is the fact that, although I can get inside my car by unscrewing the door and removing the key, you obviously can not start it as there is no ignition. The brake also does not apply its full force when I step on it like it usually does.

Not sure what to do here. Any suggestions? I am grateful.

It is encouraging to see that you have spent some time debugging the key fob. Check the direction of the battery and make sure it is positioned correctly and making full contact. Gently wipe any debris or rust from the key fob contacts using a soft, dry cloth. Perhaps there is something else going on, as the brake issue is unconnected. For an expert evaluation to find out if the issue is with the key fob, the brake system, or something else, I advise to take the vehicle to a Honda dealer or a reliable repair. I hope your Civic will soon be operating at peak efficiency again!

That sounds like a minor but complicated problem. My advice is that you quickly visit a professional to help figure out what your problem is
