NSX with a fat turbo… why rear mount?

One pothole and that turbo and intercooler are trash

Yes, it’s on bags. There was another static NSX at the same show, closer to stock. It also sounded amazing, like a symphony!

Oh really? Do you go to those shows they have? I think it’s called International Motors or something. I once saw two Bugattis there.

Saw pics of the car on the floor at SEMA!

Can’t say I’ve seen a rear mount cooler like that. Usually, they’re up in the trunk.

It’s definitely a unique build. Doesn’t seem super practical though…

Look how they massacred my boy

Oof fat panel gap and underbite.

Turbo directly into the intercooler with no charge pipe looks so sick

Aerodynamically and thermodynamically, this makes absolutely no sense at all. Sucking turbo inlet air from a hot low-pressure region, like the back of the car, is a really bad idea. Same goes for the intercooler. I’m guessing they did this for the car show points rather than any performance reasons.

@Teal
Hundred percent. It’s insane.

Eh.

Massacred that poor NSX

What’s the purpose of a rear-mounted turbo?

There is a YouTube build of a rear turbo 350/370Z. The pros are better weight distribution, keeps heat away from the engine, and the longer path allows time for the boosted air to cool so you don’t need an intercooler. Another pro is more room in the rear. It’s also easier to service. The con is more turbo lag. The Honda NSX engine is mid-mounted so it can’t benefit from not needing an intercooler.

@Cameron
Ah, I see. I’m new to this stuff so this seemed pretty weird at first, but those all make sense. Thanks, man :+1:

Looks dumb.
