Got rear-ended at a stoplight. Hatch won’t open, hood and fender are messed up, headlight is cracked, and the radiator isn’t holding coolant anymore. If I go through insurance, they’ll probably total it.
@Hugh
I see the SIR badge… are you in Canada?
Yeah, you couldn’t tell from all the salt on it? Lol
Yeah, you couldn’t tell from all the salt on it? Lol
That probably means you’re in Ontario. A lot of places west of there don’t even use salt.
@Finnian
Must be nice… yeah, I’m in Ontario.

Man, I get salt spray here in North Carolina too.

Just checking! Where in Canada are you? I’m in Nova Scotia and I’d be interested in taking the car off your hands.
Was the SIR only sold in Canada?
Yeah, pretty sure Canada got the SIR, the US got the SI, and everywhere else got the Type R.
@Hugh
Not trying to downplay the damage, but everything that’s broken is actually pretty easy to replace.
The hatch probably just needs to be yanked back into place. Might just be stuck on the bumper.
The hood looks fine except for a small fold above the grille. You could fix that with pliers, sand it down, add some filler, then paint it. If the hinges are bad, just replace those. If not, junkyards have plenty of hoods and fenders.
Radiators aren’t expensive either. Check RockAuto or any decent parts site. Your crash bar might be bent into the radiator, but that’s another easy swap.
If the car didn’t get pushed sideways, you probably don’t even need an alignment. If you really like the car, it’s worth fixing.
Start by removing the front bumper to check the crash bar. If it’s bent, replace it. Pull the radiator, swap in a new one, and reinstall everything. While you’re at it, change the headlights and fog lights—way easier with the bumper off.
For the back, take off the rear bumper and tail lights. If the hatch won’t open, have someone hold the latch while another person pushes from inside.
Scrapping a car just for a radiator and some bodywork seems crazy. Try fixing it first.
@Hugh
It’s a ‘her,’ not a ‘sir.’
You might be able to fix most of that yourself. Even if it’s totaled, insurance might still give you some money, and you could repair it or buy it back. Would be a shame to see it scrapped. Sorry man, rough situation.
@Brett
Yeah, if the car is in decent shape otherwise, a body shop should be able to fix it. Hard to tell with all the salt, but the hatch doesn’t look too bad.
Some shops give good deals if you pay cash. And aftermarket performance radiators are sometimes cheaper than OEM ones now.
Would suck to lose a classic Honda if it’s still fixable.
Are you in the Southeast? I’d buy it.
[Edit] Never mind, just saw you’re in Canada.

Bro, you’re asking that with all that snow in the background? Lol.
If it means a lot to you, you can buy it back from insurance and fix it up.

Did that with my bike after I got hit. Ended up spending around $4k using OEM parts and doing the work myself. They’re not making hatches like that anymore, so it might be worth saving.
A little 3M compound and it’ll buff right out… probably.
