Is this the battery upgrade everyone's talking about?

Wait, so you just slapped in a bigger battery?

Yeah, I pulled out the black plastic tray but left everything else the same. Had to do some adjusting with the wiring, but it’s all set now.

@Payton
Me too! My car just starts with no problem now .

@Payton
Clubs? Nah, we’re more into the ones with baby seals.

Yeah, the air box almost messed up my new AGM battery, so I added a piece of plastic between them for safety. The old lawn mower battery died after just five minutes of radio on.

You could try the Canadian spec one; it’s supposed to reduce cold start issues.

If you can get one, try getting a battery surround from an Element. It’ll stop the air box from grinding your battery. It does cause damage, just so you know.

Good to know! It’s not touching the air box, but it is rubbing against the headlight housing. I’ll use duct tape for now to avoid damaging the battery.

Did you have to shave anything down?

Nope.

Some models need a bit of trimming on the tray to fit the bigger battery.

I had a 51R in my 08 fit, but it didn’t last long. It made a bubble in less than two years. At least it had a three-year warranty, so I got a full refund, but the replacement battery was $200. Just wanted to share my experience since it didn’t last as long as I hoped.

@Ira
Was the bubble from the battery rubbing on something?

Is there any real benefit to this?

It has 500CCA instead of 340, so it handles cold starts better. Once the car’s running, though, there’s no noticeable difference. It’s also much cheaper by about $60.

@Payton
Costco batteries all the way! I just put the same one in mine two weeks ago.

@Payton
Ah, I get it now. Cool.

It’s like having an extra battery for your phone, but for your car. It lasts longer and prevents issues like headlights dimming at stoplights.
