Is the GSR swap hatch the cheapest and most fun car you can get?

I did a GSR swap on my hatch and honestly, it’s the most fun I’ve had without breaking the bank. Anyone else done this or thinking about it?

Man, it looks so good. I’m impressed .

Those OZ SuperTurismo wheels on white look amazing.

Totally agree. A friend of mine has a set for his Celica GT4, but they’re just sitting there gathering dust.

Finding a cheap GSR swapped hatch isn’t easy these days. Then I realized you’re in Europe… makes sense now.

Yeah, it’s still not super easy here unless you’re lucky. I’m stationed overseas with the US army, which helped a bit.

If you move back, please bring it with you if you can. Most of the hatches here are in terrible shape.

I wish I could, but the motor swap makes it tough. Planning to bring back a stock one instead.

@Val
Maybe you could put the original engine back in and ship the swap separately. Could be cheaper than getting another one.

The original engine was a D14Z2. It’s actually easier to just buy another hatch since clean EJ9s here go for $1-3k. I’m thinking of keeping my parts and giving the shell to a friend.

@Val
Didn’t know there was a D14… no VTEC? What’s your interior like? I know the Euro models usually get the cool interiors.

Nah, no VTEC on the D14. It’s pretty basic with 75-90hp depending on the model. The seats are way nicer than the base US ones though.

I was thinking the same… a cheap GSR? Where’s that happening?

@Jesse
You can still find them if you really search, but it’s way harder than it was 10 years ago. I was too young to be into Hondas back then.

Yeah, it’s just not the same anymore. Deals back then were crazy. Wish I’d kept all my Hondas.

@Jesse
Finding a clean hatch now is like hitting the jackpot. I searched my area recently and only found a couple that weren’t totally ruined.

Yeah, I didn’t really get into Hondas until I got stationed in Germany. They’re way cheaper here.

@Val
How much does a hatch go for there? Just watch out for rust on the rear fenders and bumper bar. Those rubber pieces on the wheel wells trap moisture and cause rust.

Mine’s got some rust on the arches, but it’s not too bad. That’s why I turned it into a track car for the Nurburgring. If it gets wrecked, it’s no big deal compared to my rare Honda Orthia. European hatches usually have power windows and sunroofs. Mine’s got power windows. An EJ9 here goes for $500-$3000 depending on the shape. The EK4 VTIs are pricier at around $7k or more.
