If the manual recommends 93, then the conversation is over. The engineers and techs wouldn’t recommend it if it wasn’t necessary.

Required and recommended are different. For example, the Si recommends 93 but it’s not required. You can use 87, and your engine won’t be damaged. 93 gives a slight power boost, but for most people, 87 is fine. I’d only recommend 93 if you live somewhere with extreme conditions, but otherwise, 87 is good.
