If I loosen the drain plug, do I need to replace the crush washer?
If the engine’s cold, the oil won’t flow as fast. You could pull the plug out, plug the hole with your finger, swap the crush washer, and put the plug back in. You’ll lose about the right amount of oil while doing this.
After driving for 30 minutes, check the dipstick for bubbles in the oil. If there aren’t any, you should be fine. Overfilled oil could cause problems if seals start leaking, though.
Overfilling can cause damage over time. There’s a reason for the correct oil level. I wouldn’t panic, but I wouldn’t drive it too much until you drain a little out.
In most cases, a small overfill is okay. The real problem happens if you overfill so much that the crankshaft hits the oil, which turns it into foam. Foam can’t lubricate properly and can destroy the bearings. A simple way to fix it is to drain the oil filter for about 30 minutes, then reinstall it. Run the engine for 30 seconds, turn it off, and check the oil level again.
