Is buying this Sport over an Si a huge mistake?

If you plan on doing anything performance related, get the Si.

Is the Sport about as good as it can get without spending too much? If so, then I guess the answer is ‘you should’ve gone with the Si.’

Edit: I think some might have misunderstood. I meant that the Sport is as good as it gets stock, since there’s not much to upgrade other than tires and suspension.

@Griff
The limited slip differential really makes a difference. The Sport doesn’t have it.

@Griff
The thing is, why bother with a less performance-focused car if you’re going to upgrade it for performance, when you can start with one that’s already more performance-oriented?

Seems pointless to make a Civic Sport like an Si when you can just buy an Si and make it sportier.

@Hollis
I have a Triumph Street Triple, so performance isn’t an issue for me. I just want this car to be fun and good on twisty roads. (Definitely want a limited slip for that). I doubt the Sport can get much more power.

This is a 19 Sport auto with 89k for $21k OTD.

I also found a 18 Si white with 94k and $19k before taxes and fees, so the price would be almost the same.

Honda seems to have made a lot of changes to engines, powertrains, and chassis in recent years, which is making it hard for me to pick the right Honda.

@Griff
It sounds like you might actually want an Si.

Or you could do what I did and get a Fiesta ST for a fraction of the price. It’s pretty fun in the twisties right off the bat.

Holy cow, you weren’t kidding about the price. This is like the third one I’ve looked at. Why are they so cheap? How’s the everyday reliability? What should I watch out for? [Link to car]

@Griff
They sold brand new for $20k, and not many people know or care about them. They’re underrated, but check out some videos on them.

They’re quite reliable, and most can easily reach 200k+ miles. The only important upgrade is the rear motor mount, since the one on the ST is weak for the torque it handles, probably because it’s the same as the regular Fiesta.

They’re awesome cars. Just find one that’s clean with as low mileage as possible.

I bought my 2017 for $13k with 65k miles.

I had totally forgotten about that car. I always wanted a lime green one, just like the one Jeremy used for the beach scene, with the ‘Zuhebrahs’ head in the boot.

@Griff
Even if you had the money, it wouldn’t matter. There’s no performance aftermarket for the Sport. Where are these parts that people think they can add to it? I’d love to see them. Sounds like you’re trying to mod a base Civic. You can do that, but just not with this one. If they made parts for it (which they won’t), you’d still be better off getting an Si for just a few parts.

If you’re not great with money, maybe consider getting the Fiesta ST the other guy suggested. You don’t really know what you’re getting into here.

@Jem
I’ve got the money. I just need to find the right car. I’m a Toyota fan, so I don’t know much about Honda beyond their history. That’s why I came here to ask.

Here’s my dilemma: Should I get the Sport, keep it stock since there’s not much to do besides get better tires, and use it as my daily? I’ve got a Triumph for fun days. Or, will I get bored and wish I had the Si, with all the parts available to modify it as I go?

@Griff
I’d say you’ll get bored of the Sport. Base Civics are just not that fun to drive. Wait for the Si.

I miss my 2019 Sport. These newer cars feel like they’re made with cheaper materials. I have the 2025 Sport Touring now, and it’s just not the same quality, except for the speed.

I bought a 17 Si and haven’t regretted it .

Just get the Si :ok_hand:

If you wanted to mess with tuning and intake mods, you should’ve gone for the Si. Especially since you’re considering cars like the WRX or IS350.

Si all the way.

I had an Si before, and it’s not a car I’d buy again. If you can afford it and want it, I’d go for the WRX. I have one now, and I think it’s a much better car.

2021 Sport Hatchback here. Get the Si.
