I have a crack in the thermostat housing of my 2005 Honda Accord and it’s leaking. The issue is, it’s placed in a very awkward spot underneath the intake. I tried removing the front part of the intake, but it’s supported by a bracket from underneath and I can’t access the bolt to remove it.
I also tried working from the bottom but there’s too much blocking the space to get any tools in there.
Why would Honda design it like this? It’s so hard to reach. I can’t even drive the car because it keeps overheating, and I really need it fixed soon.

Thanks for the link, but as you can see in the image I posted, the manifold is too close to the front, and I can’t even fit my hand in there. I think I’ll have to remove the radiator to get enough space.

Not trying to be rude, but if you’re having trouble with a single bolt, it’s probably not a problem with the car. It’s something you’re missing. Lots of people have done this job before. The upper plenum of the intake manifold comes off pretty easily. If you’re stuck on one bolt, maybe it’s time to bring it to a shop. It’s not that difficult, and this forum can only help so much with your specific issue.

I get what you mean. I think what frustrates me is that I can’t get my tools into the space properly, and I’m feeling a bit stuck. The videos I’ve seen are all for the right year but they don’t have the same intake setup as mine. I’ll give it another try tomorrow and see if taking out the radiator gives me enough room.
Here’s a video on how to remove the intake plenum. If you don’t like this one, try searching for ‘2005 Accord starter replacement.’ There are a ton of videos showing how to reach the thermostat, which is similar to changing the starter. Good luck!
