How do I fix the backlight on my cluster?

I have a 1993 Honda Accord, and only half of the backlights on the cluster are working. It’s hard to see the speed and engine temp at night. Does anyone know how I can fix this without replacing the whole cluster? Thanks for any advice.

You could try smacking the top of the cluster gently to see if it helps, but for a proper fix, you’ll need to replace the bulbs. You’ll have to take apart the cluster, which can be a bit annoying. While you’re at it, you can swap them for a different color if you want. The bulb size should be easy to find with a quick search.

When you pull out the cluster, you’ll find several small bulbs on the back that twist in and out. I got replacements from a junkyard last time, but you can check if a store or online seller has them. They’re not too hard to replace once you’ve got the cluster out.

It’s definitely the cluster bulbs. It’s a bit of work to get to them, but swapping them out is easy. You can find replacements on Amazon or eBay. Just look for ‘1993 Accord LED cluster bulbs.’ They’re not expensive.

Junkyards usually have these clusters pretty cheap. Depending on where you live, the only tricky part could be the odometer if you swap the whole unit.

I’ve done this before on a Civic. It’s not too hard, but taking out the cluster can be a hassle. You can go for LED bulbs to upgrade or stick to the regular ones. Either way, replace all the bulbs while you’re in there since they’re cheap.
