How Can I Fix My 2010 CR-V Brake Lights That Won't Turn Off?

What Should I Do If My 2010 CR-V Brake Lights and Traction Assist Light Won’t Turn Off? My wife’s CR-V is having issues where the brake lights and traction assist light stay on. We’ve pulled the brake light fuse to avoid draining the battery, but that makes the car unsafe to drive.

Does anyone know what might be causing this? Is it something I can fix myself, or should I have a mechanic take care of it? If so, what would be a fair price for the repair?

If your brake lights stay on even when the car is off, check the brake pedal. There’s likely a hole where a small rubber “button” used to be, but over time it deteriorates and falls off, which keeps your lights on. You might notice small blue pieces from the old one on the driver’s side floor. Replacing it is simple. As a temporary fix, you can tape a penny to the pedal so the brake sensor plunger retracts when the pedal isn’t pressed.

I found pieces of blue plastic on her floorboard, just like you said! Thanks for the tip. What’s the name of that part so I can order a replacement?

We keep them in stock at my job, but if you search for it as a Honda brake pedal stopper or pad, you should be able to find it.

I tried the penny trick, and it’s working so far! Thanks for the help.
