Honda Care Extended Warranty... Buyer Beware?

I’ve been seeing a lot of folks getting Honda Care warranties from dealers at really high prices. Let me share a few things to watch out for. First, always go for a genuine Honda Care warranty. Other aftermarket ones don’t match up in service or parts. Second, the price of the warranty, like the car itself, is negotiable. Dealers often try to pitch it as just adding a few extra dollars to your monthly payment. But you can get the same peace of mind for a lot less if you shop around. Places like Sacucci Honda sell these online at big discounts—use that info to negotiate with your dealer. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Lastly, if a dealer suggests financing the warranty with the car loan, be careful. Refunds on those usually go towards the loan principal, not back in your pocket. Educate yourself and be ready to negotiate on the warranty and any other add-ons.

Great info. Thanks for sharing!

Totally agree, this post was super helpful. I didn’t know the warranty price was negotiable!

Right? I always thought you had to take it or leave it. Definitely gonna try negotiating next time.

Thanks! Does this apply in Canada too? I’m thinking about getting a warranty but not sure where to start.

In Canada, they call it ‘Honda Plus’ instead of Honda Care. Similar coverage, and some dealerships like Brantford Honda offer discounts. Check out their site for more info.

@Cliff
Good to know, thanks! I’ll look into it. Are there any other online places like Sacucci for Canada?

Not sure about others online for Canada, but try using what you find online to negotiate with your local dealer. You might get them to match or come close.

Does the same advice apply to Honda Care Maintenance plans?

Yep, Sacucci sells those too. You can negotiate on those just like the extended warranties.

I got tricked by my dealer. Asked for Honda Care, but they sold me a third-party one instead. Had to go back and fix it. They tried telling me the one they gave me was better. Smh.

@Chaim
Ugh, I’ve heard that happening a lot. Dealers can be sneaky. Glad you managed to sort it out though.

Kudos to the OP! The automotive sales model is changing, even in rural areas. Customers aren’t stuck with the local dealers anymore, thanks to the internet.

True! The internet really leveled the playing field. Just have to make sure people know they can negotiate and aren’t forced into high prices.

@Cliff
Exactly, and if you do get tricked, don’t hesitate to share it online. Helps others avoid the same mistakes.

Just bought a 2022 Odyssey and got a 6-year warranty for $1920. Did I overpay? They said if I cancel, I won’t get money back but my principal will be reduced. I don’t usually get warranties, but I did this time. Thoughts?

@Tal
That does sound a bit high. If you’re in Florida, though, I hear it’s a regulated state, and they set prices. Can’t buy online either, right?

Yeah, I’m in Florida. They said it’s state law. I might just cancel, but I’m unsure if it’s worth it with a brand new car.

@Tal
If you’re not driving a lot, might not be worth it. I got a 6-year, 80k plan for $745, but I’m not in FL. Check with other dealers if you can, or maybe self-insure.

@Tal
Just FYI, all ‘G’ plans start from the date you bought the contract, not the car’s in-service date. Dealers sometimes slip these in when they shouldn’t. If your car was brand new, they should’ve offered a ‘C’ or ‘D’ plan.
