What are some common problems with the 1.5L Honda turbo engine? If you’ve had experience with it, can you share what happened?
The most common issues I’ve noticed are with fuel injectors, head gaskets, and air conditioning. The air conditioning problems seem to be fixed now by switching to a different supplier for the condensers. The head gasket issue is still being looked into, according to a post on Honda’s tech forum. In the past, Honda has usually offered a warranty extension or something similar to address these problems.
I have a 2019 Civic with a turbo engine, and the gasoline is mixing with the oil and ruining the car. Honda says that if you warm up the car, get oil changes every 3,000 miles, live in a warm state, and only drive long distances, the engine will last. But these conditions are unusual, and now my car has been out of commission for 6 months at 70,000 miles. Honda only extended the warranty for earlier models, and even then, it seems they just replace the engine. The whole car is damaged, so replacing the engine won’t fix it. My advice is to avoid this turbo engine. Honda is not taking responsibility for the problem and does not use this engine in their newest models.
We have a 2007 Civic with a 1.8L engine (the one with the cracked block issue), and it’s been great since we bought it new. We’re now thinking about replacing it. We looked at the 2024 CRV, but unless you get the hybrid version, it comes with a 1.5L engine. I’ve read about problems with the 1.5L engine too. Would you want to drive a big CRV with just a 1.5L engine?
We’re now considering the HRV with a 2.0L engine or the Mazda CX-5 with a Skyactiv engine. It’s ironic that Honda, in trying to improve fuel economy, has put such a small engine in the CRV and might lose long-time customers because of it. Since we drive so little, buying a hybrid doesn’t make sense for us.
The 1.5L engine actually makes more power than any of the old CRV engines. What’s the concern?
I’m having trouble deciding on a new Honda or any car with a turbo engine. I just want a reliable, low-maintenance car.
The HRV is terrible and has more problems than any other Honda model right now.
