Brought my newborn son home yesterday. Took my daughter out to grab some things for the baby. Snowbank was high, didn’t see a Toyota Highlander coming. It all happened so fast, not sure if he hit the front or back first. Judging by the rear tire, I’d say he hit there first and spun me around into him again. My 19-month-old in the back seat is fine. My neck is a little sore, but I’m okay. The Civic did what it was supposed to do.
Yeah, it’s definitely totaled. Airbags went off, engine sounded rough before I shut it down.

Did insurance confirm that?

Tow truck driver said so. I won’t hear from insurance until a weekday.
@Rin
I work in insurance as an adjuster. That rear tire is bent, and if there’s frame damage, it’s definitely totaled.
@Rin
I wouldn’t take a tow driver’s word for it.

Look at the pic… front bumper, hood, fender, back end, plus airbags deployed. This car is done.

Front and rear bumper, both fenders, front and rear lights. Might be frame damage in the back. Suspension messed up on both sides in the rear and also in the front. Engine made noise, so best case, something got pushed into the belt. Airbags deployed.
Not sure why you care so much. It’s my car, not yours.
@Rin
My uncle runs a body shop. He just got a 2017 Si that hit a deer. Not much body damage, but the wiring harness had to be replaced, and that alone made it a total loss.
@Rin
Your insurance will cut you a check for a new car. No injuries to you or your kid. That’s what really matters.

What’s your reasoning for that?

Even if the car was fixable with just a paint job, insurance would probably still total it. They hate spending money. The more they invest in repairs, the more they lose in the long run. Just expect them to write it off even if it looks fixable. You’ll get a check for a new car, but it’s still a loss for them. That’s just how it works.
Glad you and your little ones are okay. Time for another Civic.

Definitely getting another Civic. I have replacement cost insurance, so I should be set.

So you’re not gonna be one of those people posting, ‘how much to fix this?’
I swear half of those posts are from people without insurance.
@Shiloh
Only if I feel like farming karma.

My 2019 Civic Sport was totaled too. Not my fault, just walked away with a bruise. Bought a 2018 Civic EX hatchback two weeks later. These cars are solid.
My 10th gen got taken out by a Highlander too. Glad everyone’s safe.
