Hey everyone, I just got my brand new 2025 Civic Hybrid yesterday, but this morning I noticed the engine making a pretty loud ticking noise. It kind of sounds like an exhaust leak or something. Has anyone else noticed this with their Civic Hybrid? Is it just something that happens when the engine’s new, or should I take it back to the dealership?
That’s actually a pretty common noise with direct injection engines. The high-pressure system makes a ticking sound. Some manufacturers put foam around that area to quiet it down a bit, but it’s normal for most cars like this.

No problem. The pressure difference is huge… older cars had like 70-80 psi while these direct injection engines can go up to 3000 psi. It’s just how they sound.
Honestly, it sounds kind of like a sewing machine. But yeah, that’s totally normal for these engines.

Yeah, that’s exactly what it sounds like! Glad to know it’s not just mine.
It’s pretty normal. That foam cover is there to muffle it a bit, but some engines just sound louder than others. I’ve seen some fuel pump issues, but they usually show up early and are covered by warranty. Unless it feels rough or throws a warning light, I wouldn’t stress over it. The dealer might just tell you it’s normal and send you home.

Yeah, that’s the sound of a direct injection engine. I kind of like it, to be honest. Sometimes I hear it outside and just know it’s a Honda before I even look.

It’s just the direct injection system. I traded my 2023 Honda 1.5 turbo for a 2024 2.0 hatch, and I prefer the multiport setup… way quieter.
I’m glad you posted this. I heard the same noise on our new hybrid and thought it sounded weird too. Good to know it’s just normal.

My 2021 Accord sounds just like that too. No problems at all. Enjoy the new car!

That’s just how Civics sound. My 2006 Civic makes the same noise.

You might need a valve adjustment if it’s that loud.
