I’ve noticed my car’s cruise control is always slightly off from what I set it to. Is this normal or is something wrong?
It’s the way Automatic Cruise Control is programmed to save fuel. If you prefer the old-school cruise control, try holding down the lane keeper button—it switches between the two on my 10th Gen.

Wait… you can actually change this? Are you talking about turning off adaptive cruise control?
@Linden
Yep, you can switch off ACC and go back to regular cruise control. It’s handy if the system stops working.
It’s usually 1 mph below what you set. Technically, 1 mph over would be speeding.
If you’re going downhill, the speed might go over until the road levels out again.

It happens all the time, not just on declines. It’ll match for a bit but then go back to being off.
It’s just how it works. My '18 Pilot does the same thing.
Yep, same here. My Accord is always 1 mph off when I use cruise control.
Mine doesn’t do this at all.
Mine changes randomly. Sometimes 1 mph over, sometimes 1 mph under, and sometimes it’s exact. Maybe it’s the road incline, even when it looks flat.
My 11th Gen is spot on, unless there’s a car in front slowing me down.
That’s normal. Just set it 1 mph higher than what you want, and it usually stays close.
My ‘21 Accord always did this. My ‘25 Passport does it sometimes too. I figured it was just a quirk.
If there’s a slower car in front, it will adjust speed automatically. The little car icon with a trapezoid behind it means you have that setting on.
Not exactly normal, but not rare either. My '20 Touring mostly holds the set speed, but after hills, it might settle 1 mph off. My patrol car for work always cruises 1 mph under, my '10 Silverado speeds up 1-2 mph when setting cruise, and my '06 Corvette stays dead on unless the road changes.
I think it’s just set up to not go over the number you choose.
My ‘21 Accord does this, but my ‘18 CRV doesn’t.
Yeah, totally normal.
Our Toyota does this too with Adaptive Cruise Control. I wouldn’t be surprised if Honda and Toyota use the same system for safety features like this.
