Saw this unusual right-hand drive hatchback today. Thought I’d share and see what people think.
Yeah, but it’s not as exciting as spotting a Honda Element.

I see them all the time. I actually own two. There’s an SC parked outside Subway. A grey EX and a black EX around town. Some weird multi-coloured one, a Fiji blue missing an A-pillar trim, an orange one on the side of the highway, and a Galapagos green one across from the grocery store that I keep asking about—been doing that for three years. Where are you that they’re rare? I saw more in Georgia than in Vermont. Ever since I got mine, I can’t go anywhere without spotting one.
I still get excited every time though. Love these cars. Thinking of making an offer on the SC at Subway next time I’m there.
@Jordan
Oh, they’re definitely common. It was more of a joke. This forum had a running joke about Elements after a post. Search ‘Element’ on here and you’ll see what I mean.
That Acura badge looks out of place.
At least it’s a proper right-hand drive conversion and not someone chopping up an EG shell just for this.

How can you tell?

For 5th gen Civics (92-95, not sure about EF/EK), the antenna is always on the driver’s side. If it’s left-hand drive, the antenna is on the left, like in this picture. If it were originally right-hand drive, it would be on the right. Probably the same for other Civic generations, but I’m not 100% sure. Maybe someone else knows?
@Tan
Oh, that makes sense. I thought maybe the wipers, but they looked like right-hand drive ones at first. Just checked, and they’re actually for left-hand drive.

Why call it a conversion? Most Japanese cars are already right-hand drive, same with UK cars. Couldn’t this just be an import?
@Pierce
In the US, we have a 25-year import rule. Before that, people used to buy ‘front clips’ of JDM cars, basically the front half cut off from the firewall forward. They’d weld it onto a USDM car to get a ‘legal’ right-hand drive setup before the car was old enough to be imported.
What is going on with this car?
Not my style.
Everyone has their own taste.
I love this. Clearly, the owner is having fun with it. No need to take it too seriously. Goofy old cars like this are great to see.
Built, not bought.

I looked again. Still looks real to me.
