Anyone else had a terrible experience with AutoNation Clearwater and Honda Prologue… What went wrong?

Just wanted to share my experience with AutoNation Clearwater and warn others. Buying my first EV was supposed to be exciting, but it turned into months of frustration and broken promises.

They promised a free home charger as part of the deal, which was a huge reason I chose them. Sounded great at first, but that’s where the problems started.

For months, I’ve been chasing them for the charger they promised. I’ve:

  • Left countless voicemails
  • Sent loads of emails
  • Tried to reach my sales rep multiple times
  • Even escalated it to management

The response? Total silence. Feels like they took my money and disappeared. It’s so frustrating that a big dealership can just ignore customers like this.

Leave them a bad review on Google. That’ll get their attention.

Good idea. Thanks for the suggestion.

If this was a new car, the dealer might not have explained things well. They don’t actually handle the chargers anymore. They just report the sale to Honda, and the buyer picks from three options.

At this point, you might need to reach out to Honda directly since the dealership won’t help. After delivery, you should’ve gotten an email from Honda Home Electrification within a few days to set up credits and installation. If you never got that email, try contacting Honda support. Sorry the dealer won’t even bother helping you after the sale.

This is the real answer. No excuse for bad customer service, but your anger might be aimed at the wrong place.

@Blair
Yeah, you should’ve gotten a link from the dealer with a code for the installation discount. That connects you to Honda Electrification. They’re the ones who handle the chargers and installation. Their electricians usually cost more, but in my case, the price ended up being decent.

@Zhen
I never got any email from them at all.

I had to go through Honda Home Electrification. At the dealership, I signed a paper choosing ‘Option A.’ Honda then sent a free charger and gave me $500 for installation.

I waited a few weeks for a quote from Honda for installation, but it was way too expensive. So I asked them to just send me the charger, and now I’m looking for a local electrician to install it.

If you can, check the Honda website to see your options. Most people say their installation quotes are too high.

Maybe file complaints with the FTC and BBB?

@Octavio
Yep, it’s in writing. Honda offers the charger as an incentive for Prologue buyers. Good call on contacting the Attorney General. Honda Electrification told me the general sales manager should be able to fix this by updating the RDR file to include ‘Package Option A.’ I passed this info to AutoNation Clearwater… and still no response.

If you have proof in writing or an ad, a bad Google review might help.

When I got mine, they told me it wasn’t in stock and I’d have to wait or take the $750 charging credits. They kept pushing the credits, saying it was the better deal. I insisted on getting the charger right away. I told them if they didn’t give it to me at the time of purchase, I’d walk away from the deal. They suddenly ‘found’ one.
